Charles Lane Poor was an alumnus, The Johns Hopkins University and a professor of astronomy and celestial mechanics at Columbia. He was born in Hackensack, NJ, Jan. 18, 1866 and received the Ph. D. from Hopkins in 1892. Poor was an associate professor at Hopkins until 1903. He was appointed to Columbia where he taught until his retirement as professor emeritus in 1944. Albert Einstein was born at Ulm, in Württemberg, Germany, on March 14, 1879. Six weeks later the family moved to Munich, where he later on began his schooling at the Luitpold Gymnasium.
